Goal
Resurvey Sistema Tajma Ha adding new lines and discoveries and create a grade 3 map of the system.
Where we are
Why?
Occasionally we are asked, “Why would you want to do this”, along with comments such as”Taj is a training site”. “There is nothing left to explore”
We want to do this because Sistema Tajma Ha is a popular cave and a very unique and especially interesting cave. While backmount exploration may not yield much these days, there are still many unlined passages to found and pushed in sidemount. The best existing map from a divers perspective is the 2001 Steve Gerrard stick map. A really nice and useful map that has provide me and many others endless pleasure. However it is a little out of date now and it is after all a stick map. So why?
Well basically Tajma Ha deserves a detailed map. With aproximatly 25,000 feet (8Km) of passage, its a significant cave and no small task to map. Being so close to home is also a help considering the amount of time that needs to go into this activity.
